Resolving to Make Resolutions

As I sit nursing my annual end of year cold, I realize I haven’t taken any time to sort out what my resolutions might be. Do people still do that? Do we still use the end of one year and the beginning of another to plan our own betterment or has it become too trite? Are we too dismissive of the concept of betterment or are we too lazy to commit to that concept in the first place.

#OneWord To Rule Them All

Mockery is one of my superpowers. I am also fluent in sarcasm and learned about zingers at the kitchen table with my family as soon as I could understand what words were. My targets are many and varied. It seams oddly fitting that I start the year targeting one of the most hallowed traditions of a new year itself: making resolutions designed to make you a better person or stop doing something negative, like, you know, mocking things.

Obligatory Goal-setting Proclamation for 2016

It’s another turn of the wheel, as they say. 2015 was better than I thought it would be.  The rear view is handy like that. I’ve never actually written my goals/resolutions/whatever down.  It’s too permanent for me and I apparently have issues committing to myself. That’s something I’d like to change. So let’s see what all the fuss is about and start working on goal #1 straight out of the gate:

Snow New England snowy blizzard

Happy Snowy Birthday to Me

The morning of my birthday I woke up to swirling clouds of tiny white flakes against the soft yellow glow of the street light across our street.  It was beautiful.  I now know where the cliched image of blanketed with new fallen snow comes from and it is as peaceful as it sounds.  I also now know what it looks like snow up.  That’s right folks, Mama got a blizzard for her birthday.
